Shiseido UV Protection Compact Foundation SPF30 in Medium Ivory

Where I got it: I was sent this for review, but you can buy this from all Shiseido counters from January 2014 (I usually head to Sasa.com or Strawberrynet.com for bargains). They are RRP NZD$56 for the refill and NZD$15.50 for the case.

What I got: This is a 12g UV Protection Compact Foundation with SPF30 from Shiseido. I have this in the shade Medium Ivory (SP40). This defends against powerful UVA/UVB rays as it provides a flawlessly smooth makeup finish. Powder formula gives skin a natural, matte look. It comes in 5 shades. You buy the compact case and refill separately. The refill comes with a new sponge applicator.

How I find it: After my usual skincare routine, I let my moisturiser sink in. I use a concealor under my eyes to hide my dark circles, then I use the sponge provided to apply the compact foundation. Using pressing motion all over my face and applying extra layer to the area I need more coverage. All I need to do is press, I don’t wipe so there are so sponge marks and no dragging. Skin is soft and dry to the touch without feeling heavy at all.

Overall: This is great for my combination/oily skin type! I love it. This foundation is a light coverage buildable to a medium coverage. The finish is really naturally and not powdery. I love this during summer when I want a natural finish that is not too heavy coverage. The colour suits me perfectly without looking too white and cakey. I did not need to use any finishing powder and the foundation lasted for a long time in the heat and humidity of the weather in Auckland lately. I’ll give it extra points for the SPF30 broad spectrum – perfect for protecting my skin from UV rays!!

I have not used Shiseido’s compact foundations previously because I seem to be not as interested in compact foundations compared to liquid foundations. However, this is the one I reach for if I know I am going out for a few hours during the day and I don’t want to look like I’ve put on too much.
